Painting

Amateur work & studies

I enjoy painting with watercolors and acrylic paint, mainly as gifts for others. I feel inspired to paint by nature around me and the things I’ve seen while participating in outdoor hobbies like hiking and scuba diving.

NOTE: Here I define “study” as a group of paintings used to explore a subject or skill. These are not necessarily end products, but artifacts of development and novice exploration.

Study on California’s Highway 280

The summers of 2022 and 2023 contained commutes through the hills of California’s Highway 280 in Palo Alto for me. This solitary time was an important part of my day and inspired some 5×7 notecard paintings. I’ve used these as greeting cards for friends and family. These are made out of watercolor and acrylic. Various colors of hills and varying weather are pictured as well as manzanitas and arborvitae trees.

Study on Fruits

The details of naturally occurring, very colorful subjects were fun to explore with acrylic paint. The details of the apple were a good application of acrylic paint as layers can be applied without disrupting previous layers. The lemon bike was a good learning experience for proportions and details within a similar color range.
